Can I afford this car?

I just got a job coming out of college and I want to get a 35k car. I have 15k to put down on it...I make 55k annually, i have never owned a car though and I was wondering if i can afford this.
Can I afford this car?
What car is it?
Can I afford this car?
depends on all of your other expenses-- if your going to live at home with mom and dad, sure. but if your going to have rent, elect, phone and other misc bills, you have to figure out your monthly budget,-- your only going to finance 20k, so your payments for 5 years if credit ok about 380 a month- plus insurance and maintenance-- only you can decide
Reply:Well, you might. You asked CAN you...well...CAN YOU?! Figure it out instead of making other people do it for you. You need to take ur taxes out of 55k, then find out how much you make a month, then figure out if you can afford the monthly payments...along with all ur other bills...PLUS the house payments. If ur gunna live with ur parents, then buy it.
Reply:Can't wait to live the "American Dream" of having a big car payment eh? Something to think about....you just graduated and got this job. Do you have any assurance that you will be there next year or the year after. I would say buying a high dollar car at this point in time is not a wise move.
Reply:If you put all the money down, you can make that easy. However, if I was you. I'ld check and see if you can find one that is used with 10000 miles or 20000 miles on it. I know your asking for an 09 but if you could wait a little bit or get the 08, You could get anything fully loaded thats already been pimped out for less than 35. Still has the warranty too.

Good luck.
Reply:Well, why dont you tell me, CAN you afford this car.

With the recession coming up, and the oil prices going up up up, none of us are sure that we will be able to afford anything later on.

First off: Can you make the car payment, and still have enough to put SOME money in your savings account after paying all bills?

Secondly, Can you afford insurance on this car?

And do you have enough credit to get a good deal on interest

last but not least, can you afford GAS on this car.

Its better off to save more money and buy it later on. Invest it in savings, that way you'll be able to at least get interest on the money.

after all, if you do end up losing your job, you have the 15k you saved to fall on for a few months.
Reply:No, you can not afford either of these cars.

You maximum monthly car payment should be no more than 20% of your take home pay.

If you make $55K a year there is no way you can afford a $35K car. Why don't you do the financially intelligent thing and spend your cash on a car and live without that huge debt. For $15k you can buy a beautiful used BMW that is still covered under warranty.

Which of these cars is most fuel efficient, has max resale value and needs least maintainence?

1. Honda Civic

2. Honda Accord

3. Toyota Corolla

4. Toyota Camry

5. Mitsubishi Eclipse (NOT the convertible)

My budget is 6000$
Which of these cars is most fuel efficient, has max resale value and needs least maintainence?
Honda civic and accord. Take your pic.

Mitsubish eclipse is nice but has horable car problems in the high mileage area.
Which of these cars is most fuel efficient, has max resale value and needs least maintainence?
I wouldn't put the Eclipse in this category. It may be nice looking but it does not compare to Toyota or Honda when it comes to resale value or reliability.

As far as the other 4, I think it's all relative. The Accord and Camry are larger cars and therefore won't be as fuel efficient and they will cost you more to buy.

Resale and Maintenance will be great on all of them.

Based on the records of those two manufacturers the price to purchase a good used Toyota or Honda will be high. I think you should add Nissan and Mazda to your list. They will be less expensive to buy and are just as reliable and fuel efficient.
Reply:Toyota corola is 2.6l 4cylinder or the six 3.2 either one the one get like 26 the six cyl. and the other one the 4 cyl. gets over 30mpg

these are all reliable and will last longer than other cars in this price range.

Need to trade in gas guzzler for more economic vehicle.?

I've got a 98 Dodge Ram that I have poured money into but can't afford the gas. I support me, my wife and my gas in it. It isn't horrible by any means but it could be better so I want a more economical truck but don't know what to do. I owe $8 grand on it so I need some advice.
Need to trade in gas guzzler for more economic vehicle.?
I know how fristrating it is to have a gas guzzler. I found a site that gave me tips to cut down my gas usage by 25% (a quarter of a tank more before fill up)

http://www.gomestic.com/Consumer-Informa...

I hope it helps. good luck. As for trade in values or selling your guzzler, I don't have any idea. I'm sorry.
Need to trade in gas guzzler for more economic vehicle.?
changing the spark plugs and wires can give you better gas mileage,if they have never been changed the can lower the gas mileage you get.We were geting 12 gallons per mile on our 2000 pontiac grand prix and when we changed the plugs and wire we now get 25 mpg.You could try it,or find a nice 10,000 dollar car.Unless you can wait till next income tax and may most of your truck off so you wont be so much upside down on the payment of you next car.
Reply:Your problem will be getting out of the Dodge without losing money.

But you have to do the math. And trading in a gas guzzler for a new fuel efficient car rarely works in your favor when you look at the numbers.

Your truck is $8000. If you trade that truck in for a $20K Civic you can buy a heck of lot of gas with that $12,000.00. It will take you years of driving to come anywhere close to coming out even.
Reply:Well, we need more info on the truck, cab size, 2wd or 4wd, 5.2L or 5.9L, 1500, 2500, 3500, mileage, condition, %26amp; location. All of that makes a diff in determining it's value. What you need to do is simply come up with the $8K. However, if you find a vehicle that has great incentives, you can use that to get the negetive equity lower. Example: The Dodge Caliber has a $1K rebate, now you need only $7K. Sometimes if the dealer is willing, the markup in a car can also be used. Say there is $1.5K in a car, now you need $5.5K as a down payment. These are rough figures mind you, but it's soemthing that can be done. I just checked the Dodge web site %26amp; the 08 Ram 1500 reg cab has a $5K rebate on it. Get the V6 w/ manual trans %26amp; you more than 1/2 way there. The Dakota has $2.5K rebate on it, so that helps. G'luck.
Reply:Out here in CA, most dealers won't give you squat for a gas hog...Its hitting $5 a gal.

Keep the truck, like the other said.

My lil Escort probably went up in value LOL

Why are used cars so cheap in Texas compared to Missouri ?

Im looking for a used car but one with low mileage. seems like there is not much choice in midwest and most used cars even with high mileage are expensive. where as in texas its just the opposite. i wonder why is this ?

All this is based on looking for used cars on several websites such as autotrader.com

i have 600.00 to pay down. sorry it's so little but this was a little unexpected.

Where can I sell my 2004 silverado?

Where can I sell my 2004 silverado?
Craigslist.com best place to buy/sell cars quickly
Where can I sell my 2004 silverado?
List it on craigslist.com or in the local paper. If you have an AutoTrader, list it there too. It's more expensive, but reaches a huge audience rather quickly.
Reply:Do you need $10,500 because that's how much you owe on it or do you want $10,500 because that's what you feel the truck is worth.

Rarely does a car sell for enough money to pay off the loan.
