Shoul I buy this car?

Hello,

I'm considering to buy a 2007 vehicle privately. The vehicle is in good condition (and good price) and I already got the Vehicle History Report; the vehicle has a clean record.

I'm ready to make an offer however there is one problem: the seller is 'selling' the vehicle on behalf of a friend that recently moved to another city; therefore, the seller is not the registered owner.

I asked the seller about this and he showed me that his friend

already signed the 'Application for Transfer'.

I was thinking that I should ask the seller for a 'Power of Attorney' stating the he has the rights to sell the car.

What do you think? Anyone with a similar experience?

Thanks!

I personaly think that you shouldnt buy it.

What if HE wrote the signature and his friend is on vacation or something?

If they are selling this for someone else yes they should in fact have a power of attorney to sell the car. If I was going to do it without the power of attorney, which I probally wouldnt do anyway, but if I was, I would NOT pay cash, I would write a check written to the person on the title. Id think about this before you do it!~
Reply:I would check into this more, never know it could be a scam and believe me i know how real and true scams can seem, i have been there. I would ask for more information on the person selling the car and also you might check with DMV. Does the price seem reasonable for the vehicle? Well i hope this helps, good luck.
Reply:i just got a car (about 2weeks ago) where the reg owner (A)had released the car (by signin it) to her friend (B), who was selling the car for her... I had no problems with that, B wrote a statement with the amount which he was selling the car, we both signed it and dated it... we wanted to go to a pub notary, but they were closed that day... so we just left it like that, when i went to put the car under my name i had no prob, i just showed the letter and that was it... now, in your case, since you will be paying alot more than me, i think u should take as many precautions as possible... im not sure about the legal aspects of it... but at least try to get documents signed by a notary... good luck...
