Reply:Sounds good...on the surface. If you're really serious about this, take the vehicle to a Ford dealer and get a COMPLETE diagnostic report on it (computer printout from the on-board processor, PLUS cylinder pressures. Compare the cylinder pressures with brand new (2001) pressure readings. The current readings shouldn't be any less than 10% less than the new readings...and they should be within about 10 lbs of each other. Also check the tranny fluid (if it's an automatic).


If the fluid is pinkish, then it's OK. BUT..if it's brownish, you may have some problems in the future. Also, have the front end inspected (ball joints, alignment, shocks/struts, and brakes). You should be able to put together a "how-much-it's-gonna-cost-to-fix-it-up" list and then see if it's worth your money. Historically, that year vehicle is fairly reliable and with 90,000 on it, if all else is well, it's a great bargain. Good luck.
Reply:that would be a good trade ,the focus is a really good car and cheap to operate,if your sure you want to do this,that wouldn't be to bad of a deal,right now their both worth about the same,so you wont be loosing that much on this deal,you,ll actually gain a car you can afford to drive ,and that's what counts the most,the explorer is booked a little higher than the focus is,but its not any good if you cant afford to drive it,one other option you might have would be to sell your vehicle and then buy one,that might put you ahead on money between the two of them,good luck on this.

Or take it by your local Car-Max Dealer They buy everything...It's better if you sell yours first then use the money to buy your Focus.Cash gives you more negotiating power.Trades always make you look desperate. And they (dealers) will find a way to charge you back on some of the trade value they gave you(or pretended to) in the new deal.


Always ask for the price of vehicle you are interested in before you mention you will be trading in(if you go that route). Don't set yourself up to be overcharged. Salespeople are trained on how to answer and what price to give depending on each individual situation.Not many will admit this dirty tactic....
